Full Feeds Available

I’ve just switched back to full feeds for the RSS for PlanetMike. I turned them off a while ago when Bitacle (now Muestrarios.org (Spanish for “Sample Books”)) was stealing tons of my articles. Let me know if you prefer the full feeds or not. You can get my feed from http://www.planetmike.com/journal/feed/.

Technorati Slowdown?

So I’m checking my status/rank at various sites and discover that my Technorati rank is non-existent, as I never claimed my blog when I changed my url from /blog/ to /journal/ . But several times as I’ve been using the Technorati web site, I’ve noticed that pages are coming up very slowly, and a few […]

Web Browser Usage Update

Bask in March 2006, I wrote in Web Browser Usage about the six main web browsers (MS IE, Firefox, Safari, Mozilla, Netscape, Opera) that are used by visitors to one of the sites I manage. The site these logs are generated from is a small site that is not actively updated any longer. I’ve updated […]

WordPress Commenting Plugin Needed

In the past few weeks I have commented on probably a dozen different blogs. And 90% of the time, my comment has been tagged as spam. I’m willing to guess Akismet is being naughty in its analysis of my comments. I use a unique email address at every site I comment on. The address is […]

Upgraded to WordPress 2.2.2

I’ve just upgrade my blogs to the newest WordPress release, version 2.2.2. From 2.2.1 to 2.2.2 doesn’t even require a database tweak. Very smooth.

Upgraded to WordPress 2.21

I’ve finally upgraded my WordPress to the newest version. There’s also a newer version of Akismet included, so hopefully when I deactivate some of my anti-spam comment features for the Blogathon on Saturday, I won’t get as much spam as I thought I might. If you see any problems with the blog, please let me […]

Using Apache to Block Image Leeches

Pronet Advertising advises you to “Protect Your Site’s Content” and they give a plug to a $200 tool that helps those poor souls using IIS as their web server. If you’re running the open source apache web server, here’s a free solution I worked out after many MySpace users starting embedding funny photos from PlanetMike.com […]

Web Designers, Tech Gurus, It’s ALA Survey-time

A List Apart is conducting a survey of web professionals. It took me less than 5 minutes to fill it out.

Top Ten Thoughts on Beginning Podcasting

Lorelle asked “What Blogs Make the Best Podcast Blogs?” I have two podcasts: ShowBizRadio.net (theatre information for the Washington DC area) and ChristmasMusic247.com. Key things I’ve learned: Pick a publishing schedule and then keep it. Bandwidth usage can increase exponentially. For some reason China loves my ShowBiz podcast. I hit 32GB of downloads in March. […]

Blocking WordPress Comment Spam

Back in January I tried renaming the wp-comments-post.php file to avoid comment spammers. That worked for about 10 hours, then they started using the new file name. So I switched back to the default filename. Like I said back then “So unless you change the comment post filename regularly, it doesn’t do much good.” Well, […]
